WHAT YOU KNOW: 5 WIP OBSERVATIONS

When I was still in the single digits, I wrote with pencil and paper. I soon graduated to pen and notebook. When technology afforded me other means, I began clicking away on keys. Words appeared, amber text on a black screen, then as computer systems evolved, white text on blue. The days before I Macified my life, I had my trusty Commodore Amiga and saved my words on a floppy disk.

Look how far we’ve come.

I’ve mentioned before how lucky we are in this technological age. It’s a great time to be a writer.

Beyond the technology, I’ve certainly seen an evolution in my writing. From research, pre-writing, technique down to word choice, all have improved over the years.  When I had the chance to decompress from all the 2013 NaNo frenzy, I went over my stories, some dating back over a decade. I began to notice similar themes and tropes. Whether consciously or unconsciously, these observations are too frequent to ignore and are important to the WHAT YOU KNOW Series.

December Goals

WRITING:

SavvyAuthors: Entangled Smackdown and NaNoWriMo.

When my butt wasn’t kicked, I, too, kicked butt when it came to November’s writing challenges. A couple thousand words shy of 75K, the writing continues.

Plenty of writerly activities to keep me busy during the zaniest month of the year. I can already hear those sleigh bells as I draft this post.

WRITING:

It’s hard to believe that we’re already in the second half of November, let alone nearing the end of the year.

Week Three of NaNoWriMo & SavvyAuthors: Entangled Smackdown, here we come.

By yesterday’s count and indicator on my handy-dandy NaNoWriMo widget, I’m at 77% of the 50K word count goal. I plan on writing at least another 20K after that so I think I’m at a good pace with the story. Aside from the previous murder victims, no new bodies have turned up but there’s still time. 🙂

November Goals

Although it was in the final stretch of the month that I learned of the news, I was able to get switched to a more appropriate imprint for November’s Entangled Smackdown over at SavvyAuthors. I’ll be writing this novel for NaNoWriMo, as well. That will be the writing in the ‘fresh words department.’

#ROW80 Mid-Week Check-In 2013/10/30

WRITING:

I got an email last night that allowed me to switch from the novella imprint to the suspense imprint for November’s Entangled Smackdown over at SavvyAuthors. I appreciate how the editor gave me the option of switching imprints so I wouldn’t have to compromise the integrity of the story I want to write. I’m excited. 🙂

I’m also doubling up by entering this story for NaNoWriMo. The added accountability and online progress chart (that I’d be forced to enter each day before the cut-off) will help make November super productive.

READING:

Much of the same. My WIPs, writing reference, critiques, and beta reads. My TBR list is taking a back seat for the next few weeks, but that’s okay. It’s pretty much non stop.

NETWORKING:

Hopefully, I’ll be able to attend the in-person NaNo Write-Ins, weather and sniffles permitting. I hate drastic weather changes. I’ve got the online sprint partners via Twitter‘s #1k1hr. There’s also the online community at SavvyAuthors and the NaNo forums among many others. The world will be busy this November reaching those word counts.

LEARNING:

I’m tucking back into my treasure trove of already downloaded and purchased webinars to see what’s applicable for my WIP for November. That and my current fix of languages and genealogy should keep me busy.
