#ROW80 Mid-Week Check-In 2013/06/07

JuNoWriMo and Kiwi Writers SoCNoC  Tweeting also using #JuNoWriMo and #SoCNoC hashtags. As expected, my daily word counts dwindled this week as opposed to the frenzied start over the weekend.

Fractured Fairytale Series Word Count: 27,167 words

I think the added pressure–ahem–motivation from the 25,000 Words in 7 Days challenge has helped me churn out the words. So far, it’s been between 8:30pm and 11:30pm, though tonight I lost an hour and gained more wrestling time with TKT. (Totally their idea, not mine. Honest. But hey, I couldn’t resist.)

READING:

See, this his how messed my eyes are. I keep checking my calender and think that this week is my break between reading challenges. It turns out that I have another week of reprieve. However, I have a few books to finish and reviewed, so I’m getting through those as well as catching up on my backlog of workshop lessons and writing reference reading. Any and all education to better hone the craft is essential in any writer’s toolkit. So, basically, I’m reading a lot of stuff. Some made up, some not. All good. 🙂

BLOGGING:

As you can see, I continue the updates with #ROW80 posts and check-ins with the awesome #wipmadness community on Kim Baccellia’s blog. On last Sunday’s Week in Review I posted my entry for FLASH MOB 2013. That should be interesting and we’ll see how it goes. There are a couple of short story submissions I’m working on but as I’ve yet to focus on them, I’m just blogging about the advent of their existence. 🙂

This month, let alone the year, is going by so fast. I hope everyone’s doing well with their goals. I can’t believe eighty days are almost up. It’s been quite the ride. I’m going to assess my current goals and start planning for the next round. I really appreciate how #ROW80 has kept me going. I anticipate the latter half of 2013 will be just as splendiferous–and equally exhausting! Happy writing/reading/blogging the rest of the week, everyone!

#ROW80 Mid-Week Check-In 2013/06/05

Fractured Fairytale Series Word Count: 12,909 words

I realized I never set a word count goal this time around. I think I’ll just leave it at 50K and just focus on the production rather than the deficit from a quota.

READING:

DREAMLANDER by the fabulous K.M. Weiland and KILL ME SOFTLY by Sarah Cross. I happily discovered that the 30 Books in 90 Days Challenge officially starts on June 23rd so it takes some pressure off. I haven’t start any other book yet but will probably do so tomorrow or Friday. These two books are exquisitely different but I love the description and how relatable the characters are. More books to come, but so far, I don’t have to pile on the numbers just yet.

The 48 Hour Book Challenge is June 7th to 9th. I’m reading DOUBLE VISION by the equally fabulous F.T. Bradley for sure, but will see what other middle grade marvels I can add to the list.

It’s always good to see progress… and also the checklist of what has yet to be accomplished. (Read: When you sometimes forget what with all the simultaneous tasks, that deadlines are creeping up.) Week in Review – 2013/05/27 – 2013/06/02

JuNoWriMo and Kiwi Writers SoCNoC are off to a good start. I’ve been posting word count updates on Twitter using the #JuNoWriMo and #SoCNoC hashtags. Great people chugging along doing sprints and giving each other support.

READING:

I’m enjoying DREAMLANDER by the fabulous K.M. Weiland. It’s a testament as to why I keep going back to her writing blog and podcasts. As I know my word counts might suffer this week (though I love the Keysmashing Tots and I don’t consider it a loss), I’ll comb through my TBR list to find a second book to read so I can hack into as many books as I can for the 30 Books in 90 Days Challenge.

BLOGGING:

I believe I’m all caught up on my blog comments. WordPress ate my initial round. Aside from today’s #ROW80 post, I’ll be checking in with the lovely #wipmadness community tomorrow on Kim Baccellia’s blog.

It’s June, people. We’re past the halfway mark, the Mid-Point of the story that is 2013, if you will. Let’s make it a good one!

Week in Review – 2013/05/06 – 2013/05/12

Happy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful mothers out there.

This weekend, my sister and I took Mother Superior to Seattle to honor her for all that she does for us. After such a busy April with writing, May has taken a different turn. I’ve had a lovely reminder that taking time away from the organized chaos is an essential way to recharge and refuel the muse.

WRITING:

My work for HAMELIN continues. Worldbuilding and character development have kept me on my toes in between writing new scenes for this first in a series of twisted fairytales. I haven’t written as much as I’d like, but switching gears is helping rest my frenzied brain rather than burn out my creativity.

I need to catch up in my workshops, as well. I’ve decided to forego any future enrolments until I’m all caught up or at least reviewed the downloaded lessons of workshops wherein I wasn’t able to participate.

READING:

I loved THE FALSE PRINCE by Jennifer A. Nielsen. I’ll get into more detail in tomorrow’s #middlegrademay check-in post. I have a couple new books I’ve started but want to read a few more chapters each before bringing them into the check-ins. I’d forgotten how much I relished the immersion into a new world. I’m grateful that this reading challenge allows me to keep with my goals and enjoy the love of books.

BLOGGING:

Because I was out of town, I only had time to post my nominations for the Liebster Award and the Very Inspiring Blogger Award. Now that I’m back-ish, I’ll inform the awesome people of their awards this coming week.

Week in Review – 2013/04/29 – 2013/05/05

First of all, I must say that it’s weird I’m not posting daily. I’m sure I won’t sing that tune after years of blogging but now that I’m just in my second month of it, I think I’m in withdrawal. 🙂

100 Pages in 7 Days Challenge – 44 out of 100 pages, so far. This weekend, a lot of it was research and plotting, but it’s still towards my fairytale mashup and I’m pleased. 🙂 I’m not going to worry if I don’t reach 100 pages but I’ll chug ahead and give it a go. Either way, I’m working through at least this month to get it all shiny.

The Blog – Going well. In fact, I got a Liebster Award shout out today. That’s pretty awesome. I’ve been swamped with work that I think I’ll spend the week looking for blogs to nominate (I need eleven with 200 or fewer followers, as it’s aimed at newer blogs) and will do my spiffy Liebster-centric post this coming Friday. I’m super excited about this because this lil’ puppy is only six weeks old.

MIDDLE GRADE MAY – READ MANY BOOKS. It’s safe to say that I like to multitask. I extend this masochistic endeavour beyond writing and into reading, as well. I began the month reading two books at once. For a time, I even alternated chapters. It was fine for a little while but it got tedious to keep switching from one Kindle book to another. Also, I grew attached to one story more, so I decided to focus on that one first. I’d like to finish at least three books this month. Wish me luck. Busy busy. More on the reading challenge in tomorrow’s dedicated #middlegrademay check-in post.
