~ INVICTUS ~
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.
I first read William Ernest Henley’s poem Freshman year in high school. It is my favorite poem of all time. I’m so glad to share this poem with you, excited to post this since ~ CARPE DIEM ~ last week. In honor of National Poetry month, I will also share a couple other of my favorites next week. Invictus may as well be my Writer’s Manifesto. I’m reminded that regardless of where my writing career takes me, it’s up to me to get there. There may be hardships, there may be pain, but I’ll forge ahead as any and every writer should.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

#ROW80 MID-WEEK CHECK-IN:
1) I must remember to add these to my Wednesday posts. I keep forgetting because I schedule them to go out at midnight. Blerg.
2) Blogging A to Z Challenge is going well. A through I posted and enjoyed by many people. That excites me.
3) Despite my hectic schedule outside of book writing, my word counts up to yesterday, are as follows:
Camp NaNoWriMo – 22,590 words as of Day 09
Savvy Authors Boot Camp – 19,093 words as of Day 09
These totals excite me even more.
I’m glad to be a part of the #ROW80 experience. It’ll take my writing goals beyond April and I love the accountability and camaraderie.
