The Makeup Face-Off: Pt. 6 – Eyeliners

Line ‘Em Up

Colourpop Crème Gel Liner (Various Shades)

  • Price: $5.00 USD
  • Pros:
    • Retractable pencil
    • Creamy, pigmented formula
    • Long-wearing
    • Cons:
    • Creamy formula takes getting used to. First application went on too think because of how buttery the product was!

SEPHORA COLLECTION Contour Eye Pencil 12hr Wear Waterproof (Various Shades)

  • Price: $12.00 CAD
  • Pros:
    • Creamy, pigmented formula
  • Cons:
    • Creamy formula wears pigment down fast and requires more sharpening and product waste.

URBAN DECAY 24/7 Glide-On Pencil (Various shades)

  • Price: $25.00 CAD
  • Pros:
    • Highly pigmented formula
  • Cons:
    • Some of the colors have a crumblier consistency than others. I’ve had product flake into my eye before.
    • If there is any moisture on my waterline (or I start tearing up from allergies) the product actually comes off and I can’t reapply it on the same spot again, as though it became a repellent.
    • Pigment wears off quickly and transfers/bleeds on lower lid.

I rotate through all three of these pencils depending on what color combinations I want to work with that day. I’m not ready to try liquid liner yet, so I’ve stuck with pencils (retractable or not) until I can learn how to control the liquid liner better.

Of the three tested, I’m glad the one I liked the most is the cheapest. One thing to note, however, is that with the shipping cost and currency conversion, it also adds up so I make sure to buy other products to either make the shipping fee to Canada worth it, or have it shipped to my brother’s place in Hawaii for the free U.S. shipping.

I’m willing to try other brands and will do so when various lines go on sale. Since I haven’t been wearing eye shadow for work, I like to add oomph to my look by playing with various colors.

Next Face-Off will be on blushes, but first I’m excited that I’ll be posting about the FabFitFun order that just came in today!

Until next time…

The Makeup Face-Off: Pt. 5 – Mascaras

Lashing Out

Part of why my sister convinced me to get into eye makeup was to keep me from rubbing my eyes (a big no-no for that delicate skin) due to seasonal allergies. It’s certainly helped and the addition of mascara to even the simplest of makeup looks can give you just enough oomph to polish your look.

For my daily makeup routine, I usually skip the shadow and just stick to mascara and eyeliner. I recall a day when I forgot mascara and it definitely made a difference. Let’s take a look at three mascaras I’ve been trying out extensively and see how they got on.
